Two years after Rev. Peter Hobart had emigrated to America with villagers from Hingham in 1635, more inhabitants from the village followed with their vicar Rev. Robert Peck, seeking religious freedom in America, (and to escape from the plague which hit Norfolk in 1636-38). One of the new settlers from Hingham was Samuel Lincoln, ancestor of the American President Abraham Lincoln.
