In 1614, Reverend Richard Bucke of Wymondham officiated at the marriage of John Rolfe to Pocahontas, and a plaque commemorating this event can be found in Wymondham Abbey.
Nearby Wymondham College was founded in the buildings of a Second World War American Army Hospital at Morley, which opened in 1943 to support nearby bases of the US 8th Army Air Force, the railway station receiving large numbers of casualties following the D-Day landings in 1944.
