Swanton Morley

Richard Lincoln, ancestor of Abraham Lincoln was churchwarden at All Saint’s Church from 1599 to 1620. His former home is now The Angel Inn.

Baptised earlier in All Saint’s Church (1570) was Henry Ainsworth, a Hebrew scholar and a separatist reformer who fled to Holland where he welcomed the group that would later become the Pilgrim Fathers.

Another area of interest in Swanton Morley is the old RAF station (now an army camp). The first raid on occupied Europe made by American aircrew took off from here on Independence Day 1942, and General Eisenhower was there both to see them off and to welcome back the survivors.
